This restaurant was probably my greatest discovery in fourth year – thanks to a close friend of mine who suggested this modern Japanese eatery to me. Manpuku is an authentic Japanese cuisine restaurant which offers the finest of udons, takoyakis and many more, for absolutely insane cheap prices. Not only is it cheap, but it was also quality tasting and extremely satisfying. Prior to writing this post, I’ve already gone a total of 5 times (or maybe even more with the weeks to come!)

This restaurant is a bit far from campus (roughly a 15 minute walk from St. George) but I implore you, it is well worth it. Situated inside The Village at McCaul Street – this hidden gem is something you cannot miss out on. I’ve taken my boyfriend here on many, many occasions and I went with my close friend Sarah who introduced me to the place my first visit there.

Every time I’ve gone there, I have always ordered the Kake Udon which is their basic udon broth with plain noodle and fish cake, squid and tempura bits. This is absolutely delicious and the portion size was perfect for me.

During another visit, my boyfriend decided to go outside the Kake Udon realm and try the Curry Udon, which was pretty delicious itself. It was a larger bowl, so it was also perfect for him. If you do get the curry udon you have the choice to have beef or vegetable curry; I like that Manpuku gives some options for you to customize.

Moreover, the service at Manpuku were all very sweet and they take our orders swiftly, and effectively. I like that once we get our bowls they give us the bill right away so once we finish eating we just go to the front and pay. It’s efficient and allows us to enjoy our meals without worrying about waving down the waitress for the bill at the end of the sitting.

I was definitely satisfied with this place, and I highly recommend anyone who is looking for authentic Japanese, hot soups, a filled stomach and some easiness on the wallet.
