When I had the pleasure of visiting Seoul back during one of my summers off school with my family, I got the chance to eat some fried chicken along with their famous beer. This is a favourite pub-like food among the Koreans up until today. 

In Toronto – Korean fried chicken has become a popular fad, and MyMy Chicken is no exception! MyMy actually originated from Korea itself, and made it’s expansion to North American fairly recently. I was able to take a visit here one day with one of my close friends (who also happened to be Korean herself!) so we had some great Korean food.


MyMy Chicken took over the space that was once inhabited by Akka Teppan (which I wrote a blog about before!) I’m not sure if it went out of business, or move to another location but if you happen to read my blog on that restaurant, know it’s not at the location mentioned! The inside was very well the same as how I remembered it, but it seemed a bit empty. There was only one waiter working and the poor man was running back and forth between serving tables and getting food from the kitchen. He was very hospitable to us however – my friend ordered for us (in Korean!) and we waited for our food.


We were served some chips as an appetizer, along with what I believe is pickled radish – so that helped us munch away as we waited for our food and caught up with each other’s lives.


MyMy has some large portions, so for two small, petite ladies such as ourselves, finishing all the food was no easy task! Together we ordered the Original MyMy Chicken, along with the Gold Cheese Chicken


The Original Chicken was of course, the classic and popular choice of customers who come – and I could tell that it was a good choice because the chicken was extremely flavorful and crispy. It was definitely quality deep fry as well, we weren’t eating Popeyes or KFC here at MyMy Chicken. This was the real deal!

Even better, the Gold Cheese Chicken was another popular option by customers, and it was essentially the same base chicken, but with a topping of cheese on top of it. The cheese was melted on the top of it, and gave a great flavor. However, as you went to the bottom of the dish of gold cheese chicken,  you encountered pieces that seemed to just have cheese powder thrown clumsily onto the chicken. I didn’t like that about MyMy Chicken during that visit. As well, there was such a large quantity, so I feel like maybe you would need to have more people to join you if you’re trying to finish! My friend ended up taking some home so she could finish it off, but that’s ok!

MyMy Chicken was certainly a treat – the next time I try to have chicken there I’ll make sure I have a larger group of people joining me so that I can indulge in the right amount of Korean chicken!
