House of Gourmet is a restaurant that I’ve been to on several occasions with my family, but never had a chance to blog about it since foodie utopia wasn’t in existence! Today, I now have the chance to tell foodie utopians about my excursion there.

The restaurant itself was hustling with customers and frantic service running around, as most Chinese restaurants are like. The waiter hastily took us to our seats and we were handed a menu. House of Gourmet has a fine selection of menu options and offer some specials for customers of varying party sizes. My company and I decided that we would go or a “Combo for 2” special which came with a selection of 2 main dishes, house soup and rice.

The house soup was really tasty, though I’m not entirely sure what was in it. It was great because it was piping hot and savoury. The table had some garnishes and seasoning that you could add to the soup to enhance flavors – for this soup, I generally like putting red vinegar to give the soup more taste. This was a nice addition to our meal for the evening that day.

Then came the main dishes, which were both of the sizzling plate variety. The top left photo was the Chicken and Beef with Green Onion and Onions  which was served sizzling on its plate, and the Sliced Beef in Chef’s Sauce with Onions on another sizzling plate. They looked and smelled fantastic and the meats were very tender, so it was easy to eat. In addition, the flavors were packed into the dish and it was quite tasty. However, this was tasty in moderation – as the meal carried on, the dishes had too much accumulated flavor and grease, that by the end of the meal, it was not the satisfying feeling you have after finishing a good meal. In fact, my company felt quite bloated, as well as myself.

Overall, House of Gourmet was decent with the speed of the food delivery to our table, and providing hot food – but in terms of the quality of our dinner that night, perhaps it did not meet my standards, nor my company’s. Though the food was tasteful at the beginning of the meal, a good dish should leave me wanting more – and House of Gourmet unfortunately, did not leave me with that feeling.
